Teletherapy for Social Distancing

No, you are not going crazy. This situation we are in IS crazy.

At this point, we are all unsure what to do. Our government is telling us to stay in our homes and avoid contact with people as much as possible. Businesses are closed, major events all around the country are cancelled. There are extreme measures being taken and that is sure to cause some confusion and anxiety.

Thankfully we live in an age where many business needs can be met online. As a therapist, I am thankful I can continue supporting my clients while making sure everyone stays healthy.

Though it may not feel ideal, teletherapy is still a reliable and consistent way to engage in therapy. Though the overall energy can feel slightly different than being in person, you’ll be surprised by how easy and routine it feels.

If your therapist has decided to go virtual, I encourage you to challenge any resistance and give it a try. It may be tempting to put it off and say, “I will just wait for this crisis to be over and then go back to therapy when I can go in person.” But in times of stress and uncertainty (like now) it is important to put mental health care at the forefront of our priorities.

For some extra encouragement, here are some perks virtual therapy:

  • You can be in your pajamas

  • You can remain in the comfort of your home

  • You don’t have to travel or sit in traffic

  • You will likely have more flexibility in your schedule

Who here has done Teletherapy before? What are your pros and cons? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
